Northeast High School senior Kawnn Parrish has signed a letter of intent to play football for Missouri Western State University in the fall.
Parrish, the Interscholastic League Defensive Player of the Year, signed the letter Thursday at the NEHS library.
“I was fortunate to have a praying grandmother who sacrificed and a group of people who believed in me,” Parrish said. “I’m humbled and will strive hard to continue to do my best at the next level and hope to come back some day to speak to those who follow me.”
Parrish was the league’s first ever player of the week recipient for his play against Hogan Prep, garnering 29 tackles, two interceptions and two touchdowns. He did all this with a broken arm he sustained early in the game.
Parrish totaled 112 tackles, six sacks, 13 interceptions, 17 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 16 touchdowns and three blocked kicks in this past season.
