Two men charged in woman’s slaying

Northeast News

Two Northeast men face charges in the November killing of a 27-year-old woman in Historic Northeast.

Joseph D. Johnson III, 23, of 3512 Garner Ave., faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Mark Johnson, 27, 3512 Garner Ave., is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

According to the police report, on the night of Nov. 16, witnesses at 3713 Roberts St. reported Johnson called the victim, Lisa McGuire, and told her to come to the residence. She supposedly owed Joseph money, and he told her over the phone “everything is cool,” and just to come over. When she arrived, McGuire and Johnson took her to an upstairs room, where Joseph allegedly beat and kicked her before shooting her and fleeing with Mark.

Mark admitted to police he had a handgun on him, but said it belonged to Joseph. He told police he was afraid of what Joseph might do with the gun. Mark told police Joseph demanded the gun from him during the beating and shot McGuire, who then fell out a window. He denied ever striking her.
