The Northeast News is no stranger to printing the faces of some of the area’s most wanted criminals. In many cases it leads to arrests and jail time for those criminals.
The success of Northeast’s Most Wanted last week netted the newspaper international recognition as the Crime Stopper International award for outstanding success.
The award, which was also given to one television station in Kansas City, compared media outlets from around the globe as Crime Stopper officials assessed the success of nearly 2,000 other media outlets that assist TIPS and Crime Stopper programs.
Each year program directors from around the world including many European and South American Countries meet for an annual conference. This year’s conference was in Des Moines, Iowa.
Klutzy criminal case could head to trial
Case File Update:
Deandre Bell, as Northeast News readers may remember, was the clumsy criminal who tried to bully and rob an 80 year-old Scarritt Renaissance woman. During the robbery in front of her home, Bell dropped his shotgun in the process and slipped on the snow. The astute woman grabbed the shotgun and chased Bell off her property much to her credit.
It seems city prosecutors have offered our klutzy criminal a plea deal of 25 years in prison. Bell, at the time of this printing, has apparently refused the plea, opting instead for a jury trial.
He has until Sept. 2, the start of the trial, to accept the plea.
City offers free immunizations for children
Kansas City Health Department is holding a back-to-school immunization clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave.
