Parent/Teacher
Conferences Coming Up
Involvement is an essential ingredient to the
academic success of your children
Español
It’s amazing how "old man winter" has come in
full force – making our city a winter wonderland. The
cold weather reminds me of how quickly the school year seems
to fly by as we prepare to shed our winter layers and get ready
for the spring. Our students have progressed throughout the
year, and the time has come for parents to learn more about
their child’s ongoing progress during Parent/Teacher Conferences
scheduled for the District: February 1 for elementary schools
and February 8 for secondary schools.
Although these are scheduled dates for parents to have a one-on-one
meeting with teachers, I encourage parents to develop ongoing
relationships with their child’s school community. Get
involved. If your job interferes with the level of your participation,
get involved where you can. Lend your expertise to your School
Advisory Committees (SAC), Parent/Teacher Association (PTA),
and District Advisory Committee (DAC). Donate and volunteer
whatever you can, whenever you can. Pay attention to what your
child tells you about their experiences at school. Become actively
involved in their learning process.
As parents, we have to become proactive rather than reactive.
Every effort we make as parents makes a difference, and together
we can make a change. All Kansas City, Missouri School District
schools have some type of parent advisory group to provide avenues
of input in education. Parental involvement is one of the essential
ingredients to the academic success of your children, so please
visit our Parent Resource Center, 1215 E. Truman Rd. or your
child’s school to learn how you can get involved. The
Parent Resource Center may be reached at 816-418-8615.
