Wake
Up: It's Time to Take a MAP
This week marks annual Missouri Assessment Program
testing at KCMSD schools
On Tuesday
April 17, the Kansas City Missouri School District will begin
administering the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test. This
state-wide test assesses our student’s level of content
knowledge and skills across all grade levels and subject areas.
The MAP test is an excellent opportunity for your student to
shine. I am writing this column in The Northeast News to personally
ask for the assistance of all of our district parents in making
sure your child is prepared to do his or her best on the MAP
test.
By now, you may have already received information from your
child’s school that answers some of the most frequently
asked questions about the MAP test. Although this test doesn’t
affect your child’s grades, the results of the test will
have a big impact on how and what the teachers at your child’s
school will teach. Helping your child be confident and prepared
for the MAP test will increase the chances that teachers can
use strategies that best meet your child’s specific learning
need.
The MAP testing period is from Tuesday, April 17 to Thursday,
April 26. Principals, teachers and staff here in the Central
Office have worked diligently over the past school term to teach
students the key skills necessary to do well on the MAP test.
These skills not only assist students in the classroom, but
transfer directly to making the right decisions outside of the
classroom as well.
If you have any questions about the MAP test, I encourage you
to contact your child’s school and speak directly with
the people that directly and positively impact your child on
a daily basis – their teachers and the staff at their
school. If you have additional questions about this year’s
MAP test, feel free to visit our district’s Web site at
www.kcmsd.net.
