CAN meetings
The Community Action Network meets every Wednesday at noon at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Road. The group brings neighborhood safety concerns together and forwards them to the police department. All are welcome.
Thursday, Sept. 2
Gaming for kids
Children ages 12 and under may play Wii and board games from 5-6:30 p.m. at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Road.
Friday, Sept. 3
Grace Experiment film festival Grace Church of the Nazarene will host a winter film festival through December. About every other Friday, the church will show a different black and white film. Admission, popcorn and soft drinks will be free. The next film will be The Grapes of Wrath on Sept. 3. Grace Church of the Nazarene is located at 4300 Independence Ave.
Storytime
Storytime for preschool and younger children will be at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Library.
Saturday, Sept. 4
KCPT Kids
Children ages birth to 7 years old may receive free books at 12:30 p.m. at the North-East Public LIbrary, 6000 Wilson Road.
Computer class
There are bilingual (Spanish and English) computer classes every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East public library, 6000 Wilson Road.
Sunday, Sept. 5
First Sunday Family Fun Day
Visitors will embark on a journey through their own family histories at First Sunday Family Fun Day from noon to 4 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum. Families can learn and experiement with some of the different ways people have passed down their histories, such as through story quilts and tattoos. Children will make journals, design a cave drawing and more.
Monday, Sept. 6
Labor Day
Happy Labor Day, Northeast. The Northeast News office will be closed.
Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood meets
The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association meets at 6 p.m. for a picnic meeting at the kiosk at Gladstone Boulevard and Walrond.
Teen gaming
Teens ages 13-17 will play Wii video games and board games at 3:30 p.m. at the North-East Public LIbrary, 6000 Wilson Road.

Memorial program
The VFW Auxiliary 9997 will host a POW-MIA and Sept. 11 memorial prgram at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the post, 6801 Wilson Road. The public is welcome.
