Community Action Network
CAN will meet today at noon at 6612 Independence Avenue. The team is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Northeast. The network can help with a variety of diverse issues. Do you have problems with trash, used tires, abandoned cars etc. on your street? Do you need to find out how to get services from the City or other entities? Do you suspect that there are illegal activities in your neighborhood? Do you have questions and don’t know who to ask? Members of the CAN team are ready to help you. Everyone is welcome. Self-defense presentation
On Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., The Kansas City Police Department in partnership with the KC University of Medicine and Bioscience and the Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will be hosting a KCPD Personal Safety and Self Defense Class. The groups will be hosting this open session on the campus of the KC University of Medicine and Bioscience, Ricci Auditorium, 7500 Independence Ave., with an invitation for all to attend.
The session will consist of a Power Point presentation discussing personal safety and weapons use/protection, a question and answer session and a short demonstration of physical escape/protection techniques.

Budd Park Movie Nights
Each Saturday night through the remainder of August, children’s movies will be shown in Budd Park, on the north side of the park’s stone shelterhouse. Movies include ‘Monsters, Inc.’ on August 23, and ‘Fantasia 2000’ on August 30. Admission is free and visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Movies begin at sundown. Movies are sponsored by the Indian Mound Neighborhood Association, the Mattie Rhodes Center, and Kansas City Parks & Recreation. For more information call 816-896-9305.
